Neroli essential oil, (True), Tunisia is a sweet floral aromatic oil also referred to as Orange Flower oil. Neroli oil is a popular aromatherapy and massage essential oil, well-known for its ability to rejuvenate and to induce feelings of tranquility. Traditionally, Neroli blossoms were used to scent water, herbal teas, and for skin care for thousands of years. Extensively used in the perfume industry, it is highly sought for its high notes.

Various factors contribute to the excessive cost. First, gathering the flowers is labor intensive and they must be distilled immediately after harvest. In addition the yield is less than half a percent. The oil does not keep well and has a short shelf life compared to other florals, like jasmine. There are significant variations in the aroma of Neroli depending on the country of origin and the distillation methods and procedures. Ideally the flowers alone are distilled very near or at the point of harvest. France, Italy and Tunisia are the leading producers of Neroli in terms of both quality and volume. Ever heard about Eau-de-Cologne? It is traditionally made from Neroli Essential Oil. Even the name Neroli is related to its use as perfume. So, it is world famous as a perfume.

The health benefits of Neroli Essential Oil can be attributed to its properties like anti depressant, aphrodisiac, anti septic, bactericidal, cordial, carminative, cicatrisant, cytophylactic, disinfectant, anti spasmodic, deodorant, digestive, emollient, sedative and tonic.

Here is yet another essential oil from a citrus fruit. No wonder, most of its medicinal properties match those of other citrus essential oils. This oil is extracted by steam distillation of flowers of Neroli whose botanical name is Citrus Aurantium. There is another name Citrus Vulgaris assigned to it. The chief components of this essential oil are Alpha Pinene, Alpha Terpinene, Beta Pinene, Camphene, Farnesol, Geraniol, Indole Nerol, Linalool, Linalyl Acetate, Methyl Anthranilate, Nerolidol and Neryl Acetate.
