Geranium essential oil, Bourbon (Reunion Island) The Bourbon variety of Geranium essential oil from Reunion Island is considered by many to be the most desirable for hormonal balance for both men and women. Geranium is a hairy perennial shrub, often used in hedgerows, and stands up to about one meter high (3 feet) with pointed leaves, serrated at the edges and has pinkish-white flowers.

There are many varieties of Geranium oil available. Geranium oils from Reunion Island are by far the finest available and most researched for their therapeutic effect of balancing hormones. As with other Geranium aromatherapy essential oils from Reunion, Geranium Bourbon mixes well with many oils and its effects are similar. The Geranium graveolens from Bourbon (now called the Reunion islands) is my favorite geranium oil in a synergy blend!

History: The Geranium plants originated from South Africa as well as Reunion, Madagascar, Egypt and Morocco and were introduced to European countries such as Italy, Spain and France in the 17th century. There are over 200 species of geranium, some scented and some not.

Cautions: Geranium Oil is non-toxic, non-irritant and generally non-sensitizing. It can cause sensitivity in some people and due to the fact that it balances the hormonal system, it should be avoided during pregnancy.
