Cubeb essential oil, Indonesia has a woody dry, spicy and slightly camphoraceous aroma. It contains sesquiterpenes, sesquiterpene alcohols and small amounts of monoterpenes. It adds nice pepper notes in soaps and fragrances and blends well with woods, cananga, clove and rosemary.

Cubeb oil is derived from the small and attractive Litsea Cubeba plant. This is a small, brightly colored bush found mostly in tropical areas. The vibrant green leaves produce a pleasant, lemon odor. Small fruits that resemble peppers are used to extract Cubeb essential oil.

Cubeb Essential Oil has calming properties and used during stress and hypertension. It has anti-inflammatory property that makes it suitable for various uses. It is widely used as astringent and antiseptic.

In India, Sanskrit texts included cubeb in various remedies. Charaka and Sushruta prescribed a paste of cubebs as a mouthwash, or dried cubebs internally for oral and dental diseases, loss of voice, halitosis, fevers, cough. Unani physicians use a paste of the cubeb berries externally on male and female genitals to intensify sexual pleasure during coitus. Due to this attributed property cubebs were called "Habb-ul-Uruus". This use may have been the basis of cubeb as a legendary aphrodisiac. Outside of culinary use as a "red alternative" to black pepper, cubeb is little used in the West.

In traditional Chinese medicine cubeb is used for its alleged warming property. In Tibetan medicine, cubeb (ka ko la in Tibetan) is one of bzang po drug, six fine herbs beneficial to specific organs in the body. Cubeb is assigned for the spleen.[ Wikipedia]

Cubeb essential oil is pungent, slightly camphorous, with a touch of nutmeg. Has stimulant, expectorant, carminative, antiseptic, and diuretic properties.

Cubeb - for :Folklore aphrodisiac - Sanskrit texts included cubeb in various remedies, including as a legendary aphrodisiac, however modern herbalists don't recommend it.

Cubeb berries - for :Culinary - Cubeb berries are a "red" alternative to black pepper, bitter, peppery, and pungent.

Cubeb oil has been widely used across Asia for decades, and is extremely popular in Taiwan and Japan. Its therapeutic qualities are greatly respected and it is used for everything from hypertension to antiseptic.

Blends well with Basil essential oil, Bergamot, Ginger,Geranium, Jasmine, Rose, Rosemary, and Ylang-ylang oils.
